Chocolate Hills and Magical Sunrise in Bohol

Alona Grove, Bohol,  Philippines

Scarcely experiencing the time of my life. Substituting meals for peanut butter.

Always a new sight to see. Journeyed from Sagada to Manila on a 14 hour bus ride. Stayed at a strange hotel in Manila. Manila – Cebu flight.

Stranded in Cebu Guesthouse for 4 days – the highlight being some great conversations with Elise, from France – always smiling. Oscar from Colorado – he was finishing up 1.5 years on the road. His stories were enough to last a lifetime. Hoping I can match his adventures.

Sat in inefficient lines waiting for the first boat out of Cebu, slowly getting back to my ideal itinerary. Sunrise-pictures, edit, post picture, swim – now en route to the Chocolate Hills.

My first time back on a motorbike since my accident on the motorbike tour from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai.

Helter skelter style of living. As a tourist, I am living more humbly than the locals. Peanut butter for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Contemplating coconuts, or roasting up my own crab or fish. Likely running out of cash on Saturday en route to El Nido (No ATMs on the island). Took scooter to see the Tarsiers and Chocolate Hills. Nothing too impressive and not a single one of my Tarsier photos were in focus.

When diving beneath the ocean’s surface, I feel a sense of peace with the simplicity of marine life. As I load onto the boat, I feel similar to a school of fish, not knowing what directions are being spoken in Tagalog, so I simply look for cues, expressions, and movements of the other humans. If a line begins to form, I simply file in behind, not knowing what I’m waiting for.

Child passing in front of me carrying a 50 pound bag of rocks. Given my peso shortage I would happily join in the manual labor for a square meal.
