Walking through the sacred city of Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka
Arrived in Polonnaruwa and visited the Sacred City and experienced a few exhilarating moments while photographing monkeys close up and watched a dog play around with the monkeys. As I try and capture a photo of the monkeys among the temple ruins, I consider the similarity in skill sets and tactics between hunting and photography.
After walking through the Sacred City at Polonnaruwa, I wandered on foot through a thick forest shielding myself from spider webs by holding a stick in front of my face. Climbed between a larger than average opening in barb wire fence, but still a tight gap, my shirt got caught up in barb wire – a moment of panic. Walked through some guy’s yard – he was surprised to see me. Home free. Rice and curry dinner.
Late night visit to temple behind Orchid Guesthouse
Very peaceful when I’m not confronted by ticket booth prior to entering a temple. Met a Buddhist monk. We talked a bit about rebirth, social psychology, Buddhism folklore, altruism and karma. Glad I went out the door with no phone in pocket. Knelt and bowed for monks.
